Lately, you’ll be hard up to find a popular bar with Bud Light on tap. These days, folks love supporting local brews, driving the demand for craft on draft. Why opt for a watered down domestic, when your thirst could be quenched with a palate pleasing porter or an explosion of hops in an IPA? When in Austin, you’ll want to hit up (512) Brewing Company, where you’re bound to make best friends with the bartender.

Austin, I Love You Too Much

Austin. Such a happy city full of people who love saving the earth as much as they do smoked BBQ, sunshine and salt on the rim. With live music, festivals, food trucks and lakes, it’s easy to make a weekend trip a permanent vacation. We recently spent four days in (and two weeks recovering from) Austin and had a Texas-sized time. Check out a series of posts from the trip, but don’t blame us for your hangover.

Oh Baby: A Crafty Shower

Nothing brings out the oohs, awes and high pitched squeals quite like a baby shower. Little socks, tiny smocked clothes, ruffled bloomers and knit booties are enough to put you in an estrogen induced euphoria. And hell, after a few mimosas, even a breast pump starts to look cute. Then, the hostess forces you into playing an awful baby shower game. (No you won’t guess what brand of candy bar is in that diaper, thank you.) If you’re tired of the same old tried and terrible baby shower games, consider a carefully crafted approach for guest entertainment. Onesie making!

Thank God no one ever suggested grabbing a few Cokes after work or we’d never have Happy Hour or half the world’s population. As the second runner up for most popular drink in the world, losing out to water and tea, beer is the beverage for all occasions. With more and more malting, milling, fermenting and filling happening throughout the South, beer lovers are lining up to tour local breweries to find out where their favorite cold ones come from. That’s exactly what The Wordy South did at SweetWater Brewery, in our third and final “draft” about our trip to Atlanta.

A mix of old money and new ideas, ATL boasts a progressive scene, while still keeping Georgia on its mind. The Wordy South spent a weekend in the city, and while it’s impossible to experience everything Atlanta has to offer in two days, we did get a good taste of its Southern charm. It’s a month full of ambition as we promise ourselves to hit the gym and get it together once and for all before 2014 comes knocking. The possibilities seem endless in December, but when January rolls around, it’s easy to fall off the resolution wagon before hopping aboard.
